According to a Thursday morning report from Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Reds’ starting pitcher Raisel Iglesias has finally revealed the origin of his lingering elbow troubles. The former Reds’ Opening Day starter told the aforementioned Buchanan that he injured both his right elbow and hip three weeks ago after falling in the shower. Although an unusual occurrence, the setback may cost the veteran right-hander the early part of the upcoming 2017 regular season. Nonetheless, Iglesias has not pitched in a regulation game since back on March 14. On the other hand, he will attempt to start his throwing program this Sunday in order to begin his road to recovery. “From my understanding, the soreness wasn’t related to throwing, it was related to a contusion that he sustained at home,” said Reds’ manager Bryan Price, via C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “The good news is that it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a huge setback or there are any structural issues at all. The negative is that he’s going to have four more days off before he begins to throw again and we’ll have to see how comfortable we are by Opening Day or maybe before that.” After serving as the club’s Opening Day starter a season ago, the 27-year-old Iglesias went on to produce a 2.53 ERA across 37 appearances and just five starts. He also produced a 3-2 record, six saves, seven holds, two blown saves and 83 strikeouts against 26 walks across 78.1 innings of work.
