This therapy is implemented through exercises and routines that strengthen muscles that are necessary in daily activities, such as dressing, eating, bathing, toileting, cooking, shopping and banking, transferring to a bed or tub, etc. PRC therapists improve patient skills to achieve independence in all aspects of their daily lives. We customize treatment programs to focus on the individual’s goals. Our therapists will get you ready to go home with vital skills on how to function with maximum independence and accomplish daily living tasks. Speech Our Speech/Language Pathologists are trained in providing evaluation and treatment for patients with a variety of speech and swallowing disorders. They also perform VitalStim® Therapy, Modified Barium Swallow Studies, host a monthly Stroke Support Group, and are a U.S. Resource Center for Proloquo2go Augmentative Communication Devices. Neuropsychology Neuropsychology is a subfield of clinical psychology that focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating the changes in thinking and behavior that can result from injuries to the brain. Our Neuropsychology Department consists of a licensed professional who holds a doctoral degree with extensive education and experience in the neurosciences. Our department also supports the education of graduate students from the University of Central Florida. The primary role of PRC’s Neuropsychologist is the empirical assessment of cognitive functioning. That is, identifying, measuring, and treating the changes in thinking ability (for example, memory, attention, reasoning, judgment, and perception) that are often observed following insult to the brain. In addition, the Neuropsychologist evaluates and treats behaviors that frequently occur with acute or chronic illness, such as emotional and adjustment changes. Equipment and Technology used at Peninsula Rehabilitation Dynavision Dynavision is a light-training reaction device, developed to train sensory motor integration through the visual system. The increased ability to receive visual stimuli, mentally process this information, then react to it with a motor response, has vast implications for human performance. Designed for high performance athletic training, it was soon discovered as an incredible evaluation tool for head-injuries, concussions and visual field deficits. Patients who have sustained a stroke or brain injury often face impairments in visual, perceptual, cognitive, and physical skills. Other neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury and debilitation contribute to the wide variety of clinical diagnoses treated in rehabilitation settings. Patients with these conditions often experience functional limitations resulting from impairments in balance, coordination, range of motion, strength, and endurance. The Dynavision can be used to address the performance skills impaired by these conditions. The VitalStim® Therapy System The VitalStim® Therapy System is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering with difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. The VitalStim® Therapy System is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy cleared to market by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002 for the treatment of dysphagia with application on the anterior neck. When utilizing the VitalStim® Therapy System, a clinician will apply VitalStim to a patient’s neck while simultaneously working with the patient on swallowing exercise. Wii Therapy Known as “Wii-habilitation”, this popular video game helps patients improve strength, balance, endurance, and motor coordination. The Wii therapy mirrors traditional therapy exercises, but the patients become engrossed in playing and don’t notice the pain or hard work that they are doing. Patients look forward to this therapy as they can have fun while benefitting from rehabilitation! Bioness The H200 Wireless Hand Rehabilitation System uses advanced technology and low-level stimulation to help rehabilitate patients with upper extremity paresis. Patient can use the H200 Wireless System to perform therapeutic and daily activities to improve lost hand function as a result of: Stroke Traumatic Brain Injury Spinal Cord Injury The NESS L300 plus leg cuff system uses adaptive and customized technology to help your patients with neurological conditions regain natural function and mobility as a result of: Stroke Traumatic Brain Injury Multiple Sclerosis Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury ADL Suite Peninsula Rehabilitation has a full service ADL Suite, with a home-like setting. The ADL Suite is utilized to incorporate ADL training i.e. homemaking skills. We have a fully functional kitchen, laundry room, and bedroom with closet space. We have a bathroom area with portable items (tub, sink with vanity, and standard height toilet) to simulate the exact setup a patient has at home. Molift Ceiling Track System Utilized to provide support while patients are in the gym, the track system assists patients in walking on their own.
